This picture is not in our photo shoot agenda or in our plan, actually we were just finish our shooting and take a break, having a cup of tea or coffee, so while we are having our drink, I notice that the lighting was perfect and the mode was there, so I captured it, I mean the model, shooting continuously with my camera until the model doesn’t bother anymore, so I get this shot, a quite moment in a very crowded situation, there were seven photographers and two  models at the table, so you can imagine the situation, it is quite noisy actually. This is among my favorite shot from the outing even though it is not in our original plan…

Enough rant about my experience while attending “Compulsory Adobe Photoshop Course” organize by my department, that’s what you get when you attend a course for free, you are not given a choice, just live with it, but I’m sad because it is tax payers money, the course suppose to make our job easier, faster and more efficient with the knowledge that we gain but if we can’t use the knowledge on our day to day duty, what’s the point of the course?

Back to the picture of my son HaiQal above, in case you were to ask, how do I get the colors. As usual I develop my picture in ACR Adobe Camera RAW simply because I shoot in RAW, I boost the temperature somewhere between 7000 to 8000K, I know it is high temperature but later on I decrease the Vibrance and just push a little bit saturation, all done in ACR. After finishing some basic editing in ACR, later on I do my final adjustment in photoshop, this time I play around with Channel, I just give you some hints only, how to play with Channel, go and figure it out, that’s the only way to learn, you may make some mistake or get some unwanted result but  you will learn along the way. Don’t be afraid to make some mistake and don’t be afraid to try something new.

I like to keep on experimenting, I don’t use any plug-ins, preset or any photoshop action, I did everything from scratch but I do suggest to any of you out there who make bulk editing like wedding for example to use plug-ins, it will increase your productivity and will save you great times, but to get creative and if you have more times to play around and nobody waiting for your art work then you can get creative with photoshop, trust me the excitement of doing the things on your own rather than using plug-ins is different because you know what you are doing rather than let the “Software” do the thinking. Taking a picture yourself is not the same as giving order to other photographers to get the picture. Same like if you pay someone to get a picture on the other part of the world, yes you get the picture but you don’t get the experience of being there. But sometimes we need to work smart rather than work hard, you be your own judge and you draw your own line…

HERITAGE TRAIL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS : POSTPONED

7th March | Alor Star Kedah

I love taking picture of man in power, I mean not in political power but man or women who have such a powerful energy and stamina like this guy picture above, just look at his eyes, full of power and fearless. We need this kind of man to protect our country, fearless man, will do anything for our country. He is from PASKAL ( Naval Special Force ) is the elite special operations force of The Royal Malaysian Navy, which conducts unconventional warfare , guerilla warfare, jungle warfare, direct action, counter-terrorism, close protection for VVIP, specific enemy assassination, hostage rescue and special reconnaissance as well as foreign internal defense.

It was officially established on October 1st 1980. I guess you can do your homework more on the internet, but the fact is most of the details are not covered, you won’t be able to see the truly PASKAL, they are very secretive about their operation and also their training. It was for our own good I guess, what I can say is that, not everybody fit to be a PASKAL members, they are only for the tough among the toughest, nobody want a weak man to protect or country. I never get tired of taking this man in action, rarely do we saw this man in action in public, this shot was taken at Merdeka Square Kuala Lumpur, during Malaysian Armed Forces Career Exposition in Kuala Lumpur. The expo aim to lure more young Malaysians to opt for careers in the military.

I’ve been busy lately with model shooting, I’m not making any commercial or shoot for the money but just hanging out with a bunch of photographers sharing ideas and thought about photography, most of our models this times or most of the times are teenagers, Myspace or Friendster kind of things, a little bit awkward for me to shoot them because I was a little bit on the “older” side and most of my friends too. But in the end we are having fun, just don’t ask me to go out and take a street demonstration shot that will “change the world”, I was referring to the world “scenario” at the moment, those things happen even when I wasn’t even born yet and nothing gonna change that period. Back to the photo shoot above, actually I was taking that shot in some of black alley that was everywhere in the world you can find it but this one is on a safe area, in fact a lot of people come and go here, there are also people stop from their track just to have a look at what we are trying to do, in the end we are having fun…

I really enjoy any type of photography especially when it involve human, I like doing a portraiture shot, a pretty lady, baby or even an older person. This photo session actually was organize by friend of mine, he like to be called just CHOT, thanks a lot my friend for the invitation, even thought the light and weather was not very good for a photo shoot we did go through and make the best that we can do. It is a challenge when doing a photo shoot in the outdoor simply because we can’t predict the weather.

Most of people that I’ve photograph is not a professional model, they just a friends of another friends and get recommendation  from other friends as well. We just wan’t to have fun along the way, sharing our passion and also our knowledge with a newbie. I think we learn a lot by practicing on the field rather than just read a book or some online tutorial, it is not the same, reading and doing it practically. We are not taking picture of a building but a human who have an emotion to be taken into consideration and not to mention people along the way or along the road that just watch what we are doing, we must have a thick skin to do it in a very crowded area, we must be prepared to get on the ground, to get our hand, camera and our cloth collect dirt in order for us to get a great picture. Don’t bother with what other people are thinking, they just don’t know what we have captured with our awkward angle and positioning. Only the photographers know…
